OLPC of Awesome

By hyrcan - Posted on 19 December 2007

It's here! In all it's tiny green awesomeness!

What you may ask? My very own OLPC!

Yeah... I could have saved up some money and got a nice Powerbook or spent less by getting some other gadget. If I did that though, I'd be missing out on this opportunity to not only get a cool gadget, but help some kid get one too!

Not only that...it's green too, and not just in color! With being designed from scratch focusing on cost, in the field relyabilaty, and durability, this little gem uses very little energy, has no moving parts, and from the looks of it...can take a beating.

It also came in essential packaging, no mounds of garbage to toss, and with two pieces of printed material. That's it.

Right off the bat I noticed how awesome this thing is when I started up. The UI is clean, and as simple as it can get.

The keyboard is tricky but my hands are exactly the kind it was designed for. There is one thing hand size does not account for, and that's the space bar. It seems to miss sometimes. Maybe I just need to get used to it.

I've not tried out any of the cool application yet. I did play with the Write, Picture, and browse apps. Because that's how I wrote and posted this entry!

I'll keep you updated...

Also, keep an eye out for a cool project revolving around these little guys coming soon.
