4th Amendment R.I.P.
What do you even say to that.
I'm speechless really.
Sitting here trying to write something about what has happened and I'm at a lose for words. Could someone please explain to me how someone who taught Constitutional law could vote yes on a bill that strips us of the 4th Amendment? I'd really like to know.
Actually, I don't need anyone to really answer that, because I already know. I've talked about it before, and to be completely honest, I'm glad Barack Obama has lived up to my expectations. Once again, if American's turn away from America's Next Top Model long enough to notice, we get a glimpse at the fact that we don't have a democracy. They have no interest in the will of the people. Their allegiance is to corporations and covering the corruption.
I hope they continue on this path. The more fucked up this country's government gets, the more corrupt, the more out of control the better. Americans that sit back and allow things like FISA to get passed desserve it. We need drastic change, which will only come from some sort of catalyst. Chaney and the Project for the New American Century when they wrote the 2000 report Rebuilding America's Defenses.
"Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor"
They had theirs, eventually it will be ours.

If there is hope, it lies in the proles...

I just hope it is not in my lifetime...

@vw bug: I hope it's with in mine. The question I struggle with is, "What if it's mine it needs to be refreshed with?"
This lead me to wonder just what the key members of revolutionary forces thought before crossing the point of no return. Successful or not, patriots, revolutionaries (call them what you will) have free will and thought, just what were they thinking? In some revolutions first blood must be extracted. Friend or foe, it must be done.
I can't help but wonder, would I have the nerve to start a revolution.
Welcome to the matrix. More people are waking up to this and realizing that the Constitution is not in force today. I take one issue with you post -- I think we now DO have a Democracy -- instead of the republic that was created for us. The politicians take and give based on who bribes them the most, instead of limiting themselves to what little the Constitution permits them.

@Ogre: While by the strictest definition, it is a democracy in that it is "Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives." It fails in the greater sense of the word as it also includes that "The common people, considered as the primary source of political power."
I think we both agree this is not the case, while it is a "government by the people", "the people" have relented their rights to the elected representatives, and other members of society. Ask the average people who their representative is, most won't know, ask those who know when the last time was that they contacted their representative on an issue.
Since we do not exercise our democracy, we have given it up, allowed it to turn into an oligarchy that is in the guise of a democracy.
We, "the people," every four years are given only two viable choices for the position of president. Anyone that believes these choices are not carefully chosen are suffering from a delusion. Millions, if not billions, go into these two choices to make sure they are the "right" choices.
Some may scoff at the idea of it, but when hundreds of trillions of dollars are at stake? How far do you think someone would go?
Point well-taken. I'm not sure our current government fits the clear definition of any well-defined form of government. We have large areas that are clearly socialistic. Certainly, judges have nearly unchecked power in many areas, as befitting an oligarchy. When selecting people to vote for, in most places were are more communistic than anything else. Most of all, I believe we are NOT a democracy or a republic, unfortunately.
Most places where you look at elections, there aren't even TWO choices. How many candidates are there for your US House seat? I've only got one, and have only had one for over a decade.

Heh, at least you have representation. ;) I'm in the District. Though much like our "shadow" representative in a lot of races there's not even two to pick from. At least that people hear about.
